Buying at Auction: Frequently Asked Questions

If you are not familiar with the auction process we would like to take the time to provide you with some frequently asked questions and answers.  If we miss a question, or you are not sure how the bidding process works, please do not hesitate to ask.  We are more than happy to discuss the process with you or answer any questions.

When are your auctions?

We have two types of regular auctions.

  1. Our general personal property auctions are held almost every Tuesday mornings come rain or shine (generally barring only holidays.) Tuesday mornings are outside (so we call them Open-Air Auctions) that are largely filled with tools, yard supplies, and other general household & garage items.
  2. We typically have at least one online auction per month - sometimes it in-house as well like our antique auctions, and sometimes online only.

Beyond the above, our schedule is often quite full with assorted specialty auctions, onsite auctions, and more – keep an eye on the auction calendar & keep checking back to see the latest schedule of events.

Can anyone attend an auction?

Yes, bring your friends and family, our auctions are open to the public. It is fun and fast paced - the auctioneer will ask for an opening bid from the crowd, from there the fun begins & the last bidder with their hand up is the winner.

Is there a set time/date that I can preview the items for auction?

Usually we will have an official preview time starting a few hours prior to the auction. Check the details of the auction - preview dates and/or times should be listed. Feel free to give us a call for more info.

Do I need anything special to attend an auction?

No, however if you wish to bid you will need to register, and the first time you register we will require a valid photo ID (usually a driver’s license.)

There is an item I want and I can’t attend/stay for the whole auction - what can I do?

Stop in or call and ask to leave absentee bids(aka left bids.) This is the perfect choice for when your time is short but the desire to purchase is not!  The absentee bidding process is simple (think ebay style) – fill out a basic form detailing the item/s you are interested in and give us your maximum bid, one of our staff will do the bidding for you – up to the maximum you specify (for example: if you leave a bid of $100 on an item and the bidding only goes to $20, you get the item for $20.) We have a strong crowd of buyers who trust us to bid for them as they would themselves.  It is a benefit to all as it increases the number of bidders for the sellers’ items and creates a trusted bond with our buyers. Another option, for select auctions, is bidding online. We often have items listed for online bidding at most of our specialty auctions and antique auctions.

Dudley's Auction conducts weekly scheduled and specialty auctions creating a diverse and varied option for all of your estate and liquidation needs. We are a proud member of both the National Auctioneer's Association and Florida Auctioneer's Association.
