Selling at Auction: Frequently Asked Questions
If you are not familiar with the auction process we would like to take the time to provide you with some frequently asked questions and answers. If we miss a question, or you are not sure how the bidding process works, please do not hesitate to ask. We are more than happy to discuss the process with you or answer any questions.
What type of merchandise can I sell at auction?
We can sell almost anything - from single pieces to the entire households. Generally we do not have a crowd looking to buy pool tables, clothing, food, shoes, well worn furniture, pianos, organs, CRT TVs (the old fat ones,) and moldboard furniture (unless it’s in very good condition.) Please contact us for any questions about specific items/collections for more detailed info.
How much do you charge to sell my property in an auction?
We use what is known as a sliding scale. Simply put, the more a certain "lot" sells for, the lower the rate. Essentially, a “lot” is the unit that property is divided into and auctioned off in. For example: a set of dishes is one lot, a couch is one lot, and a collection of pots and pans would be one lot. Please contact us, or check our contract for details on how this breaks down.
How do I get my property into an auction?
Generally, people drop off the items here at our gallery. Our drop off days are Fridays (and possibly Mondays - call us to discuss availability) from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM by appointment only give us a call (352-637-9588) to arrange a date. In the case of Antique and Specialty Auctions we need about a week at minimum to organize & advertise everything, so please contact us for explicit dates to drop off for these auctions. If you have a large quantity of items, big items, or otherwise just cannot get things to the gallery yourself; we can arrange to pick up items for a fee.
What kind of auctions can I expect to have my property put in?
We conduct various types of auctions:
- Tuesday Open-Air Outdoor Auctions – This auction generally consists of our tools, lawn accessories, garage, household utilitarian and everything in between.
- Online Only Auctions - We aim to hold these auctions at least once a month, and often include a better tier of furiture, electronics, colletibles, etc. We often realize higher sale prices compared to our in-person auctions due to the larger customer base that the internet provides.
- Antique & Collectible Auctions – We generally hold these auctions on Sundays roughly every 3-4 months. As we prepare other auctions, select items are set aside to create the basis for these special auctions and are typically held both in-house and online.
- Specialty & Onsite Auctions - We add these auctions as needed throughout the year, so it all comes down to what sellers bring to our attention. Checking out our website is the best way to stay updated on these sales.
Contact us for a free, no obligation consultation. Please don’t be concerned about not having enough pieces of a collection to create an entire auction by yourself; we are often able to combine your items with those of others to create an auction.
